Teams back in action; Schedule heats up

It was an exciting night of basketball at Marlette last night when the Red Raiders played host to Millington in a game heard on WTGV. Marlette’s Sean Quade picked the best time of the game to score his only points of the night, netting two free throws with 11 seconds to play to lift the Red Raiders to a dramatic 57-56 win over the Cardinals. Barrett George led the winners with 14 points, Bryce George added 13 points and seven rebounds and Ethan McKenney chipped in with nine points.
In other games involving local teams, Almont turned back Brown City 53-45 despite 16 points from Calvin Cook and 10 points each from Caleb Muxlow and Andrew Geiger while Cros-Lex opened BWAC action with a 58-35 loss to the Imlay City Spartans. Other scores included; Capac over Algonac 53 to 38 and Richmond turned back Armada 49 to 46.
On the girl’s court – Sandusky rolled past Richmond 52-33 to move to 8-0 on the year behind the scoring of Gabby Gough and Madysen Jansen, each with 11 points. The Lady Redskins built a 40-14 lead after three quarters. Jess Kursinsky added 10 points while Lacey Nelson and Haley Nelson tossed in eight points apiece.
The Peck Pirates had a thriller on their home court, falling to Bay City All-Saints in NCTL action 28-26 and Deckerville came out on the short end of a 54-27 final score with the undefeated Harbor Beach Pirates. Jenna Arndt paced the ‘Beach scoring with 12 points and McKenna Wolschleger has 10. Charlotte Schulz led Deckerville scoring with six points and Madisyen Guza had five.
Other girl’s scores included Caseville’s 50 to 30 win over Owendale-Gagetown behind 15 points from Heidi Ewald, it was Cass City 40, Caro 20, Elkton-Pigeon Bay Port Laker had 24 points from Kaylee Krohn in a 45-34 win over North Huron 45, Abby Schefka tossed in 19 points to spark Imlay City over Bad Axe 52 to 45 and Marine City beat St. Clair Shores Lake Shore 58 to 18.
In boy’s games Wednesday night it’s; Ubly travels to North Huron, Harbor Beach will be at Laker and Yale is at Marine City. In girl’s games; Port Huron is at Yale, Marysville ventures to Centerline and defending Class A state champ Warren Cousino visits third-ranked PH Northern.
Brown City and Harbor Beach, two girls teams hoping to battle Sandusky for the league title, now turn their focus on each other, and the GTC-East race, when the two teams meet on the Lady Green Devils home court Thursday night. WTGV will be at the game, with the pre-game show beginning at 7:05 p.m.
