Marlette hosts awareness meeting

(Marlette) – More than 150 people were in attendance Monday evening at the Community Awareness meeting held in Marlette. The event was sponsored by the Marlette police department. Chief Brian McGinnis said the turnout was an indication of how concerned everyone is about the use of drugs in the Marlette area. Among those speaking to the group was Michigan State Police Trooper Mark Swales who discussed the affects heroin has on a community and why heroin has become so popular among drug users. The meeting was capped by Gabe Rheaume who has traveled the path of heroin addiction, fought the fight and how he continues to overcome his 10 year addiction.
McGinnis said it took a lot of courage for Rheaume to share his story, but hopes it will help bring awareness of the problem to the community.
