A 40-year old Clyde Township man shot his father, a family dog and himself early Sunday morning. According to St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon, deputies responded to a call of shots fired in the 6000 block of Abbottsford Road shortly before 1:00 a.m. They found the 68-year old father of the shooter in a wheelchair, bleeding profusely from his hand, where he had been shot. A deputy wheeled the man to the road, where he was treated by medical personnel and transported to McLaren Port Huron Hospital.
Deputies found the 40-year old suspect on the floor in the living room suffering from a self-inflicted gun-shot wound. He was transported to McLaren Port Huron and later transported to McLaren Macomb in critical condition. The father told police there had been no argument between the two, but his son had been acting strangely recently. He said his son came out of a room with a .22 pistol and pointed the gun at him, shooting the father in the right hand.
The son shot the family dog before turning the gun on himself. The incident remains under investigation.
