(Deckerville) – Quick action by the Deckerville fire department prevented a bad situation from getting worse. Chief Tracy Hoff said his department responded to a report of a house fire around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the corner of Main St. and Buel. Upon their arrival, they found heavy smoke coming from the second floor and flames starting to build on the first floor. After initial reports of someone possibly inside, Hoff said his firefighters conducted a rapid search and found no one. It was later learned the individual had left shortly before the fire.
The home sustained heavy smoke and fire damage. The family is seeking help from other relatives for lodging and clothing. Sandusky fire department was also called to the scene. Firefighters remained on the scene for about an hour, Hoff said.
