A large, hip-roof barn used for equipment storage, and other nearby structures, were damaged by fire Wednesday afternoon. Four fire departments from Sanilac and Huron County were called to the scene on M-19 in Austin Township. Fire officials said they responded to the Grifka farm on south Ubly Road where more than 4,000 bales of hay and some farm equipment was lost.
Bingham-Ubly fire department received mutual aid from Minden, Argyle and Cass City with firemen remaining on the scene for over four hours, pouring more than 40,000 gallons of water on the burning hay. No one was injured in the blaze.
