Marlette city council has given the Ok to apply for two Michigan Department of Natural Resource grants that if approved, would allow for improvements to be made at the city park. City Manager Corey Schmidt said the city is in the process of filing the paperwork for a proposed new basketball court at a cost of approximately $70,000 dollars and playground equipment upgrades totaling $20,000 dollars.
If either is approved, the city will have to pay a 25% match. In other news, council also heard a report of the city’s streets and agreed to move forward with a plan to work on three streets.
Schmidt said the $102,000 dollar project would improve Vail, Ellsworth and Lamotte streets with the majority of the funding coming from the city’s portion of a county-wide road millage.
