Sandusky Lady Redskins clinch league championship

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
#1 ranked Sandusky clinched the GTC-East championship outright with a solid 47-30 win over Harbor Beach. The Lady Redskins, now 18-0 overall and 9-0 in conference action, outscored the ‘Beach 17-8 in the third quarter to break open a close game. Haley Nelson led the way for the league champs with 14 points and Madysen Jansen had 10. Jenna Arndt paced the Harbor Beach scoring with 13 points.
Marlette rolled past Memphis 45-24 as they continued their late season winning ways. The lady Red Raiders had 11 points from Sydney Parker and 10 from Emily Schaub to post the GTC-East win.
Ubly held on to edge Brown City 45-44 thanks to 14 points from Kara Peruski and 13 from Kaitlyn Sweeney.
Reese posted a 54-21 win over GTC-West foe bad Axe and were led by Taylor Findlay’s 13 points. Brayton Meeks tossed in nine for the Lady Hatchets.
Dryden had 16 points from Jordan Peters to take a 36-22 win over North Huron Paige Woodke led the Warriors with 11 points.

In high school wrestling action – 19 wrestlers from the area have advanced to the regional individual tournament tomorrow, including five district champions. Joe Hayden and Collin Lieber earned titles for the Cros-Lex Pioneers with the others being Brad Gierman (38-3) of Brown City and the Marlette duo of Andrew Webster and Isiah Stewart. Lieber, who is 36-0 at 152 lbs., was a state finalist a year ago while Hayden is 29-3 in his 140 lb weight class. It team districts, the Cros-Lex Pioneers won their sixth straight team title and took on Birch Run in the regional semi-finals earlier this week. Marlette had advanced to their district team finals by defeating Brown City in a close match before falling to host Mayville.
