North Branch faculty hears Sheriff speak on drug use

Like many other school districts in the area, North Branch faculty and staff heard Sheriff Scott McKenna speak on the increased use of drugs in a Friday morning session. The sheriff spoke to the crowd on how faculty can identify signs of drug use and what steps should be taken if there is suspicion. He also said use begins simply as prescription medication abuse and grows into a more serious situation, once the prescription runs out. He stated use of heroin is a problem well beyond North Branch, but it also is in every small community.
The sheriff said id does little good to put people behind bars, rather they want to help them seek treatment.
