New position and security cameras approved for County Jail

(Sandusky) – At Tuesdays’ Board of Commission meeting, members heard a presentation from Undersheriff Brad Roff proposing a new position in the jail that would be an assistant to current Jail Administrator Nick Romzek. Roff said if approved, the employee would work alongside Romzek for the next several months to learn the Adminstrators’ job in anticipation of Romzeks’ pending retirement.
Roff explained the six department Sergeants would compete for the position internally with the intention to keep the position as a permanent job once it is filled to help develop future jail administrators. The board agreed to move forward with the hiring process.
In other board news, Lieutenant Romzek requested the board consider the purchase of a new video system at the County Jail that would provide more safety and security. Romzek said a decision was made to try and keep the old system when the new jail was built to help save money, a move that is now costing the department money, due to it being an outdated system.
The new system would cost just over $89,000 and was approved by commissioners
