(Detroit) – The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Detroit Police Department Tuesday, advising the vehicle that was stolen from the Peck area had been located near Hayes and Harper Roads in Detroit. Deputies responded and processed the vehicle for evidence. During the follow-up, deputies recovered numerous items that conflicted with the original report of the vehicle being randomly stolen.
This evidence provided information that the person reporting the vehicle stolen had actually met the suspect on craigslist and had picked them up in the Sterling Heights area. The victim then had brought them to the residence on Peck Road prior to the theft of the vehicle.
With this information, deputies re-interviewed the original complainant and ultimately arrested him for filing a false police report and obstructing the investigation.
The 43-year old male from Flynn Township is currently lodged in the Sanilac County Jail awaiting arraignment. Charges will be sought on the 28-year old female from the Sterling Heights area for the theft of the vehicle.
