Fire departments battle two barn fires


Area fire departments fought two barn fires in Sanilac County over the weekend
 
(Buel Township) – A three-alarm blaze in eastern Sanilac County kept firemen busy for over an hour Saturday morning. Croswell Fire Chief Steve Bales said his department was called to a fully engulfed 25 x 50 foot barn before noon Saturday. Bales said there were no injuries reported after firemen from Croswell, Lexington and Applegate battled the blaze on Aitken Road near Short Road in Buel Township, using 4,000 gallons of water. No cause of the fire has been determined.
Meanwhile, firefighters from three departments battled a barn fire Sunday night that resulted in the loss of six cattle. According to Brown City Fire Chief Keith Redlin, his department received mutual aid assistance from Marlette and North Branch in the 9 p.m. fire involving a 50 x 150 foot barn near the intersection of Cade and Stiles Road.
Redlin said cattle and hay were lost in the blaze. Firemen remained on the scene for about two hours, using 20,000 gallons of water to douse the flames. Cause of the fire has not been determined.
