Commissioners approve police vehicles

(Sandusky) – During the Sanilac County Board of Commissioners finance meeting Tuesday, the Sanilac County Sheriff Department received the approval to purchase four new vehicles, two of which will be used for patrol.
Three of the vehicles will be Ford Interceptors while the fourth is a pickup truck for the marine Division. The total price tag for the vehicles comes in at just over $120,000 and is part of the sheriff department budget.
The County’s Drug Task Force team also received approval on buying a 2016 UTV from Tri-County Equipment at a cost of around $16,000.
Funding for the purchase will come from a $10,000 grant and DTF contingency money.
In other Commissioners news, with action taken by the Board of Commissioners Tuesday, the court-ordered Worth Township sewer project has opened the door for potential further delays, due to lack of funding.
Commissioners approved extending the bids from contractors another 90 days to allow time to receive funding from the national branch of the United States Department of Agriculture.
Worth Township Supervisor Phil Essenmacher has been assured the $42 million dollar project will proceed, but can’t start until all funding is in place.
The job is projected to be a nine month build and must be in operation by September of 2018.
