The City of Marlette is seeking quotes on making water valve repairs that will effect Main Street traffic. City Manager Corey Schmidt said four water valves on a water main near the intersection of Main Street and Moorse Street need to be replaced. Line stop valves will have to be installed prior to the work beginning. The work will require a closure of one lane of Main Street for up to three days and Schmidt said the faulty valves, and the associated work to make the repairs, is expected to cost up to $25,000.
In other Marlette council news, the city learned their grant seeking funding for safe pathways to schools is progressing and they have been notified of two recommendations to be made before final approval is given.
Schmidt said the city will need to install sidewalks on both sides of Marlette Street west of the stoplight and to address sidewalk concerns on Sterling Street new the junior/senior high school.
Marlette expects to receive up to $600,000 from the program and will be responsible for design and engineering costs of around $80,000.
