Cass City still hoping for grocery store

(Cass City) – Two businessmen were considering developing grocery stores in Cass City, but one recently pulled his plans off the table.
Jim Zyrowski, owner of the Marlette-based Ben’s Supercenter Inc. with stores in Marlette and Brown City, is still planning to open a grocery store in Cass City, while there are now “for sale” signs in the former Fairway Discount Store where a Texas businessman had intended to open a store.
Zyrowski planned to build a store along M-81 on the site of a former lumber yard. In April, he decided to renovate the former Erla’s Food Center and Packaging, in an attempt to speed up development of the grocery store.
Zyrowski has said he planned to revamp the store and have a full-service store open by the end of the year.
Cass City residents have been without a local grocery store since Erla’s closed three years ago.
