Accident claims life; several injured in rollovers

Police are investigating several accidents

 
(WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – SANILAC COUNTY) – A 71-year old Milford man had quite a ride early this morning when he was involved in an accident in Sanilac County’s Washington Township. Sanilac County sheriff deputies said the man was traveling south on Ruth Road, near the intersection of M-46 around 1:15 a.m. when he failed to stop at the stop sign, crashed through a ditch and landed in a farm field.
The driver was transported to McKenzie Memorial Hospital for treatment and later transferred to Covenant Hospital in Saginaw. The accident caused substantial damage to the Ford pickup. Deputies said alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident, however they believe driver fatigue and unfamiliarity with the area are considered contributing factors. The Carsonville Fire Department and Sanilac EMS also assisted at the scene.
(ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP – ST. CLAIR COUNTY) – A 36-year old Fort Gratiot man died after his motorcycle collided with a pickup on Wadhams Road near Tripp Road in St. Clair Township around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. Police said Wadhams Road was closed between Puttygutt and Belle River roads for several hours while accident investigators reconstructed the incident.
Sheriff deputies say the pickup was traveling south on Wadhams Road in some curves and struck the motorcycle which was heading north when the accident happened. The motorcyclist, operated by Jon-Marc Chandler, was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Chandler was a Paramedic for Tri-Hospital EMS in Port Huron and also a volunteer firefighter with Fort Gratiot Township.
(HUME TOWNSHIP – HURON COUNTY) – A 20-year old Port Austin woman looking at a message on her cell phone was injured around 6 p.m. Monday when she lost control of her car in a one-vehicle rollover accident in Huron County’s Hume Township. Sheriffs deputies said Cheyenne Huizar was driving north on M-53, south of Knoblock Road whens she was looked down at a text message on her phone and lost control of the car.
The vehicle left the road, went into a ditch and rolled on its’ side. Huizar was able to free herself from the vehicle and was treated at the scene by Central Huron Ambulance personnel. She later was taken to Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe by private vehicle for treatment of her injuries.
(LINCOLN TOWNSHIP – HURON COUNTY) – A 68-year old Bad Axe woman was taken to Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe after her car left the road and rolled over in Lincoln Township Sunday afternoon. According to Huron County sheriff deputies, Carol Ann Lovass was driving on Crockard Road, north of Church Road and told deputies a deer ran out in front of her.
She lost control of her vehicle on the gravel roadway and it rolled over around 2 p.m. Lovass had to be freed from the wreckage by the Kinde Area Fire Department. Deputies said Lovass was traveling too fast for the conditions of the gravel road.
