2 Genesee County men avoided disaster Monday afternoon, after they broke through ice in Saginaw Bay around 1:30 p.m. The men were on ice near the area of Bayshore Camp in Sebewaing Township. Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson said two ice fishermen came to shore after breaking through the ice about a mile offshore. Sheriff Hanson said one of the men was believed to be in his 70s and was able to get himself out of the icy water. However their ice chanty and ATV were submerged. Hanson said he flew over portions of the ice last weekend and found cracks and erosion of the ice. Heavy rains this week will most likely put an end to ice fishing for the near future.
