22 children, ages 6 to 10 years old and accompanied by an adult, attended the first Self-Defense for Little Shaver program at Sanduky District Library Saturday. The event was sponsored by the Sanilac Area Violence Elimination Council. Organizers said participants were taught rules including stranger danger and people smarts along with basic striking, stunning and escaping skills. Participants also saw a movie showing actual child abduction and the learning the importance of being aware of your surroundings. The SAVE Council hopes to make the training an annual event.
