New gear and additional training are on tap for the Lapeer County sheriff department, after receiving word of a successful $40,000 grant. With the funding, the department will be able to replace bullet-proof vests and also continue with their training of their newest K-9 deputy. The county and state will share in the costs of 13 new vests. The largest portion of the funding will be spent on a new vehicle that is capable of towing a trailer used to transport evidence from crime scenes.
