Car – semi accident seriously injures one

(HURON COUNTY) – A section of Sebewaing Road near Blakely Road in Huron County’s Grant Township was closed for several hours Friday after a serious crash around 9:00am involving a passenger car and a semi truck. According to Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson, the driver of the car, 33-year-old Sean Mauze from Salem, Oregon was traveling west on Sebewaing Rd when he crossed over the centerline and crashed head-on into a loaded semi truck driven by 57-year-old Dean Henne of Bay Port.
The impact tore the front axle off the semi and both vehicles ended up in the ditch on opposite sides of the road. Mauze was freed from his vehicle by the Jaws of Life and transferred by helicopter to an out of county hospital with serious life threatening injuries. Henne was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.
Several agencies responded to the scene including the Harbor Beach Fire Department Hazmat Team to clean up several gallons of diesel fuel that had spilled from the truck. The road was reopened to traffic around 5:00pm
