With the summer season upon us and the Fourth of July rapidly approaching, authorities are cautioning the use of fireworks throughout the Thumb area. Local law enforcement agencies are reminding people to know the time and dates fireworks are permited, or be prepared to pay stiff penalties. In population sizes of under 50,000 people, government and law enforcement agencies may regulate the use of fireworks between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. the day before, day of, and day after a national holiday. The fine for not following the law may be up to $500.
