The search to find a replacement for retiring Animal Control Officer Jim Mattson is on-going. Sanilac County Administrator Tara Gritth told Commissioners Tuesday afternoon that despite receiving more than 25 applicants, they will continue to take applications until June 15th. Griffith said although several had submitted resumes, none met all of the job requirements set by the County. In the meantime, Commissioners have approved using two part-time employees and one fulltime senior officer to get through the summer months with hopes of adding a new hire by fall.
In other Commissioners news, the board approved a contract with McKenzie Health Systems to provide medical coverage for inmates in the County Jail. The $187,000 dollar contract is an increase of$98,000 over what has been paid, but provides a nurse eight hours a day, seven days a week at the jail for an additional $98,000 dollars annually. Commissioners also heard an update on the County’s Evergreen Park that an additional 14 sites have received full hookup service, giving the park 161 sites with full services.
