Sanilac Board of Commissioners Hears USDA Fund Updates

The Sanilac County Board of Commissioners heard some good news Tuesday afternoon and the best part was it didn’t cost them any money. Leah Lentz, Sanilac County Med Control Director and Sgt. Ron Dubois said the county is well on their way to receiving a USDA grant of over $72,000, including match money. The funding will be used to purchase new 72 new AEDs (automated external defibrillators) for every fire department, medical first responder unit and patrol unit in Sanilac County. Med Control will pay the county’s portion of $25,000 with millage money while USDA is kicking in $50,000. Final approval of the grant is expected in the coming days.
Also in Commissioners news, the board heard updates from Emergency Management Director Todd Hillman and Community Mental Health Director Will Morris. Hillman said the county has handled three Hazmat spills this year, two from vehicle incidents and engaged county agencies in a mock table top incident in February simulating a major ice storm. Morris told Commissioners plans are moving forward with a satellite office on N. Howard Street in Croswell and another possible location in the Marlette or Brown City area is being considered.
