Personal Injury Accident
On August 24, 2019 at approx. 12:10 P.M. Sanilac Central Dispatch received a call regarding a personal injury accident involving a motorcycle and UTV on Galbraith Line Road and Jordan Road in Sanilac County’s Speaker Township.

Deputies arrived on scene and determined that a UTV being driven by a 57-year-old Melvin man was traveling westbound on Galbraith Line Road, when he turned in front of a motorcyclist that was passing him also traveling westbound being driven by a 59-year-old Yale man and his 50-year-old passenger from Goodells.
The driver of the UTV was attempting to turn into a private drive on Galbraith Line Road and did not signal prior to making the turn. Witnesses state that the driver of the UTV had been traveling from the center of the road back to the shoulder of the road and that’s why the motorcyclist was attempting to pass him.
The driver of the motorcycle as well as his passenger struck the rear end of the UTV causing them to go airborne before landing alongside the roadway. Both subjects had proper riding gear on as well as helmets.
Both the motorcycle operator and his passenger were treated on scene and transported to McKenzie Hospital in Sandusky by Marlette EMS.
The driver of the UTV was found to be at fault and was subsequently arrested for Operating While Intoxicated among other charges.
Names are being withheld pending charges by the Sanilac County Prosecutors Office and the accident remains under investigation. Alcohol and failure to obey traffic laws were factors in the accident.
Deputies were assisted on scene by the Speaker Township Fire and Rescue.
