(ST. CLAIR COUNTY) – The St. Clair County Sheriff Department has identified the driver in a fatal crash Thursday in Columbus Township.
Investigators say Jennifer Kiesling, 30, of Columbus Township, was killed in a two-vehicle crash at about 3 p.m. on Gratiot northeast of Bauman Road in Columbus Township.
Depuities say the crash involved a semi and a passenger vehicle driven by Kiesling. Kiesling’s 8-year-old son, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was taken to Children’s Hospital in Detroit with critical injuries, according to the sheriff department.
The semi driver, a 65-year-old Richmond man, was uninjured and voluntarily submitted a blood draw, according to the sheriff department.
Investigators believe Kiesling was eastbound on Gratiot when she attempted to pass a vehicle in a no passing zone and pulled into the path of a westbound gravel train, resulting in a head-on collision.
No criminal charges are expected to be filed because Kiesling was found to be at fault, according to investigators.
A Gofundme page has been started to help pay for Kiesling’s funeral and her son’s medical bills.
The crash remains under investigation.
