A Fort Gratiot man is facing numerous sex charges following an investigation by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau.
Mark Robert Olson, who is 60 years old, was arraigned today before Magistrate Susan Borovich in 72nd District Court in Port Huron.
The investigation began in November after the Port Huron Police Capture Program received an anonymous tip. That information was passed on to the Port Huron Police Major Crimes Unit (MCU).
Members of the MCU were able to determine that Olson resides in Fort Gratiot Township and turned the investigation over to the Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office uncovered multiple criminal sex acts involving Olson between the years 2001 and 2008. Those crimes occurred in both Fort Gratiot Township and the city of Port Huron. Olson was also found to be in possession of child pornography.
Olson was charged with five counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct and three counts of possession of child sexually abusive material.
He is being held without bond at the St. Clair County Intervention and Detention Center.
Olson will be back in court for a probable cause hearing on December 23rd and 9:00 a.m. before Judge John Monaghan in 72nd District Court.
“We are deeply disturbed with the allegations regarding this suspect,” said Sheriff Tim Donnellon. “We are also thankful of the collaborative effort between the Port Huron Police Major Crimes Unit and our Detective Bureau in removing a sexual predator from our community.”
The investigation is continuing, with more charges against Olson expected. Anyone who was a victim or has any information regarding these crimes are asked to contact Detective Haley Bonner at (810) 987-1728.
