2020 Board of Commission Chairman Bob Conley and Commissioner Joe O’Mara had heated words at Tuesday’s meeting.
(SANDUSKY) – Sparks were flying at the organizational meeting of the Sanilac County Board of Commissioners Tuesday afternoon, highlighted by a heated exchange between newly elected Board Chairman Bob Conley and District 2 Commissioner Joe O’Mara.
At one point in the exchange, Chairman Bob Conley gaveled O’Mara down, which he took exception to and said, the Chairman couldn’t tell him to stop talking. Conley told O’Mara, “you do this every meeting, about the bills. Every time.”
O’Mara shot back at Conley, “I don’t have to do what you say”, adding, “I am not your slave.” O’Mara has consistently questioned, and not voted, to pay County bills in an on-going battle between himself and County Drain Commissioner Greg Alexander.
O’Mara said he had a problem paying bills with no contracts, no paperwork on some bills and “making payments that are clearly suspicious.”
According to the State of Michigan Drain Code, Board of Commissioners have no authority over the Drain Commission office.
