(ST. CLAIR COUNTY) – The driver of a vehicle that crashed into a Tri-Hospital EMS ambulance Monday has died from injuries sustained in the accident, according to the St. Clair County Sheriff Department.
Investigators say John Lynch, 33, of Marine City, died early Monday afternoon at St. John’s Hospital in Detroit.
Video downloaded from the ambulance showed that Lynch was driving north on River Road near Hathaway Road in East China Township shortly before 5 a.m. when his vehicle can be seen crossing the center line and striking the ambulance that was headed south.
There were three people in the ambulance; the driver, a 33-year-old man from Macomb Township, a 24-year-old female paramedic who was in the jump seat in the rear of the unit and a 67-year old Port Huron Township woman who was being transported.
The EMS workers sustained minor injuries and the woman being transported told deputies she was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
