(HURON COUNTY) – A chase by Huron County sheriff deputies that ended on foot led to the arrest of a 24-year old man Monday evening.
According to Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson, deputies responded to a party store in Owendale around 6 p.m. after a woman reported a physical assault.
The suspect, Shane Cook, failed to stop for deputies and ran from his vehicle before being apprehended a short time later. Investigators say Cook, and the victim., who were staying with relatives, had physically assaulted the 20-year old woman, including choking her.
Cook was lodged in the Huron County jail and booked for domestic assault and interfering with electronic communications. During further investigation, the Sheriff’s department learned Cook was wanted for prison parole violations in Wyoming, as a result of a larceny conviction.
Cook was formally charged Tuesday afternoon with assault to do great bodily harm and interfering with electronic communications. He was arraigned with bond being set at $75,000 cash.
He remains lodged in jail and will be returned to Wyoming after court appearances in Michigan.
