Marlette Firefighters, with the assistance of departments from North Branch, Brown City and Burlington township, battled a large mulch fire at Kappen Tree Service, located on the former Active Homes property, south of Marlette. Marlette fire chief Dan Korte says the fire broke out around 1 am Sunday and firefighters remained on the scene for six hours. Over 150,000 gallons of water was poured on the stubborn blaze. There were no injuries reported. Sanilac and Lapeer County sheriffs deputies assisted firefighters, along with the Lapeer County Road Commission.
