Updated Thumb-area COVID-19 numbers

The number of Coronavirus cases in the five county region in the Thumb continues to increase, including in St. Clair and Lapeer counties where numbers have increased dramatically. While Huron County continues to hold steady with just four cases, Tuscola County is up to 26 cases, with two reported deaths. Of the Tuscola cases, 12 are at the County Medical Care Facility. In Sanilac County, health department officials now report 17 cases, up three from earlier in the week, and have also reported two deaths, one of which happened over the weekend involving an 81-year old Applegate woman. Lapeer County is now up to 56 cases and three deaths, all of which happened this week and in St. Clair County, there are 129 reported cases, as of Tuesday afternoon. In the five-county region, there are a total of 232 cases with 10 deaths. Statewide, Michigan was expected to surpass 19,000 cases on Wednesday with more than 850 deaths. The vast majority of the cases in the state are in the Metro-Detroit area.
