A 23-year veteran of the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Department has announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Sheriff. Lieutenant Steve McKenney began his law enforcement career in the corrections department. He then moved to the uniformed services department where he worked on road patrol, and as a drug-unit investigator, and after being promoted to sergeant, served as a unit supervisor for the Sanilac County Drug Task Force. He currently works in the detective bureau.He has also been active in training for a number of school and community organizations, McKenney is a life-long Sanilac County resident, and resides in Lamotte Township with his wife and two children. If elected, McKenney says he is committed to community policing, being fiscally responsible, and breaking barriers to build a brighter future in Sanilac County
