Marine Deputy Tate Bongard and Sheriff Garry Biniecki
The Sanilac County Sheriff Department recognized members of the department and a local fire department for heroic actions performed in recent weeks.
Two deputies, a Marine Deputy and a member of the Port Sanilac fire department received Lifesaving awards including saving three victims who had been in Lake Huron.
Marine Deputy Tate Bongard was the star of the ceremony, receiving two Lifesaving Awards.
On May 31st, Bongard and Port Sanilac fireman Brian Moran, Jr. were recognized for saving a Marlette man who had been diving in the lake and after coming ashore, went in to cardiac arrest.
Bongard and Moran performed CPR and helped save the man’s life.
Just last week, Bongard observed two victims in the water of a sinking vessel and quickly rescued them from the water, bringing them to shore for medical assistance.
Both victims were in serious physical condition and Bongard’s quick actions earned him his second Lifesaving award.
In the third incident, two deputies were able to talk a suicidal subject in to dropping his weapon after threatening to cut his neck in Elk Township.
