(SANILAC COUNTY) – For the past several weeks, Sanilac County has maintained a low, steady number of coronavirus cases and were able to close out the files for the first 42 cases including five deaths.
However, in recent days, the County Health Department is reporting a slight uptick in cases, adding four new cases.
Sanilac County Emergency Management Director Todd Hillman said the alarming part is that the new cases are in a whole new age group, adults in their 20’s.
He said with some restrictions lifted, not all people are following social distancing guidelines and it’s beginning to be a problem.
In Sanilac County, the southern half of the county continues to show the highest numbers with 37 of the 46 cases south of the M-46 area.
The Croswell area continues to have the highest number of cases, increasing to nine while Carsonville has also had an increase, now with eight cases.
The Brown City area is next highest with six while Sandusky and Marlette have four each.
Of the 46 cases in Sanilac County, just four cases are active.
Officials say a continued spike in numbers is possible with the upcoming Fourth of July holiday weekend.
