Sheriff Tim Donnellon
(Port Huron Township) St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon has decided to retire a bit earlier than originally planned. After nearly 33 years of service, he will step down as Sheriff on November 8th to pursue another job opportunity.
Sheriff Donnellon will be taking a position with the Michigan Gaming Control Board. He is scheduled to begin his new position on November 9th.
“I had fully intended to serve my entire term in office,” said Sheriff Donnellon. “However, this new career opportunity presented itself, so I will be leaving six weeks earlier than planned.”
The sheriff is thankful for the support of the community throughout his career.
“We in St. Clair County law enforcement are blessed to have the backing of the citizens to do our job,” said Sheriff Donnellon. “I will be forever thankful for your kindness and thoughtfulness throughout my career.”
The sheriff went on to say: “When I was elected as your sheriff in 2008, it was the highlight of my career. In the past 12 years, we have experienced some very difficult times, but have prevailed as a team in the community and at the Sheriff’s Office.”
A replacement for Sheriff Donnellon will be chosen by a board of Prosecutor Mike Wendling, Probate Judge Elwood Brown and County Clerk Jay DeBoyer, per Michigan statute.
Whoever is selected will fill the remainder of Sheriff Donnellon’s term.
Current Sheriff’s Office Captain Mat King is running unopposed for Sheriff and will begin his term on January 1st.
