Lapeer man suffers fatal injures in crash

A single vehicle crash claimed the life of a 23-year old Lapeer man over the weekend.
According to the Lapeer County Sheriff Department, Lapeer County 911 dispatched Deputies to the scene of the crash where at least one person was injured on Silverwood Road, north of Ducker Road near North Branch.
Deputies say a motorist discovered an overturned pickup truck within a swampy area off the roadway around 9 a.m.
Deputies determined the driver was the only occupant and had attended a Halloween Party in the area.
Investigation showed Skyler Reeves, 23-years-old, of North Branch Township, left the party around midnight driving a pickup truck.
Reeves was traveling south on Silverwood Road and failed to navigate a curve within the roadway and struck a roadway sign.
The pickup went airborne into a swampy wooded area, striking several trees before coming to rest on its passenger side.
Deputies say Reeves was not wearing a seat belt and was trapped inside of the vehicle. He was later pronounced dead at the scene, according to deputies.
North Branch Township Fire Department removed the victim from the vehicle.
Deputies say Reeves was not wearing a seatbelt and a toxicology analysis by the Lapeer County Medical Examiner’s Office is pending to determine if alcohol or drugs were contributing factors.
Deputies were assisted by Michigan State Police Troopers, North Branch Township Fire Department, Lapeer County EMS and the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit.
