(SANILAC COUNTY) – Despite an order by the Michigan Health and Human Services Department to cease indoor dining and a visit from the Sanilac County Health Department Director Bryant Wilke, one local Sandusky business is among those statewide who have chosen to remain open, and pay the consequences.
The former Big Boy restaurant in Sandusky has eliminated it’s affiliation with the franchise and continues to operate as the Sandusky Diner and reports good business with strong community support.
While facing fines for remaining open, at $1,000 dollars per day, the MDHHS says the business owners now owe $5,000 dollars as a civil fine.
The restaurant was also issued a cease and desist letter from Sanilac County Health Department claiming a breach of the MDHSS order of gatherings, facemasks and employee protective measures.
The owners have raised around $10,000 dollars through a GoFundMe page that could help with fines and legal costs.
After a 35 year association with the Big Boy franchise, the restaurant is no longer associated with the corporation and plans to continue with their business.
