The Tuscola County Sheriff Department is working with other law enforcement agencies on a string of recent thefts from storage units.
Investigators have responded to a number of storage units in Tuscola, Genesee and Saginaw counties where owners have reported break-ins.
According to detectives, with the assistance of the Saginaw County Sheriff Department, property was recovered in at least one home in Saginaw County with items believed to have been taken from Tuscola County.
Police say suspects are using bolt cutters to remove padlocks, stealing items and then replacing the broken locks with a different one.
Authorities say there may have been many other thefts where property owners have no idea their own locks were switched by thieves.
At least one suspect has been identified in the thefts and police are asking for the public’s assistance in finding other potential suspects.
If you have any information, or have had items stolen from a storage unit, you are encouraged to contact police.
