St. Clair County; hospitals giving COVID vaccines to workers

The St. Clair County Health Department has received an initial allotment of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, according to a news release.
Vaccinations for individuals in first-phase priority groups were expected to begin this week.
Health department officials say they received 900 doses and the news comes just four days after the arrival of the Pfizer vaccine received at Port Huron McLaren last week.
Hospital officials at McLaren planned to immunize up to 325 frontline employees against the coronavirus.
The vaccine has to be used within 120 hours of leaving ultra-cold storage at McLaren Macomb.
Vaccine distribution for the first phase will be limited and prioritized to cover paid and unpaid people in healthcare settings who have direct or indirect exposure to patients or infectious materials. It’s also available to those who are unable to work from home, according to the health department’s press release, as well as residents of long-term care facilities.
It was expected to take several months before vaccine supply increases to immunize everyone, according to the health department, with emphasis in prioritizing healthcare workers.
