Marlette Regional Hospital received quite the Christmas present when an area resident who passed away last January gifted the hospital nearly $300,000 from his estate. Gordon Pabst was a lifelong resident of Marlette, and served as a teacher at Marlette elementary school for 29 years while also managing his promotional products company, Gordon Pabst Enterprises, for 62 years. Although Mr. Pabst didn’t have family, he mentored many students, was a dedicated civic member of the community, and was remembered for his kindness and generosity.
Marlette Regional Hospital Foundation and Marketing Manager Sara Redman says she was shocked when she received the call from one of Mr. Pabst’s trustees with the news that he would be leaving the $290,000 gift to the hospital. She adds that his generous gift will benefit patients for generations to come.
Other recipients of Mr. Pabst’s generosity include the Marlette First United Methodist Church’s building fund, and the Sanilac County Community Foundation’s ‘Gordon Pabst Scholarship Fund.’
