(ST. CLAIR COUNTY) – The body of a missing person found in Kenockee Township Sunday has been confirmed to be that of a teen from Avoca, according to the Michigan State Police Lapeer Post.
Sixteen-year-old Leah Conner reportedly went for a walk at around 11:20 a.m. on Saturday, according to a news release.
When she did not return home, her family reported her missing at about 4:15 p.m. Further investigation led troopers to the Trestle Bridge, which is located on the Wadhams to Avoca Trail where an MSP police dog was used to conduct a search of the area.
The victim was found Sunday morning, and the trail was closed between Imlay City and Beard roads for much of the day.
Yale Public Schools Superintendent Ken Nicholl said counseling and social work staff is available for any students or staff who need it.
Law enforcement officials do not feel there is a threat to the public and police say the manner of this death is considered suspicious until an autopsy is completed.
Anyone with information or knowledge involving this incident is asked to contact the MSP Lapeer Post
