Police investigated a two-vehicle accident
(SANILAC COUNTY) – Two people sustained injuries in a crash in Sanilac County’s Elk Township shortly after 9 a.m. Monday morning.
According to the Sanilac County Sheriff Department, Central Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call reporting a two-vehicle traffic crash at the intersection of Peck Road and Melvin Road in Elk Township.
Deputies, along with Marlette EMS, Sanilac EMS, and the Elk Township Fire Department responded to the scene.
Deputies say a 68-year-old Greenwood Township man driving a 2018 Chevy Silverado was going north on Melvin Rd.
The driver stopped at the stop sign at Peck Rd. before continuing north and entering into the intersection with Peck Rd and into the path of an eastbound 2010 Ford Explorer, driven by a 49-year-old man from Melvin.
The Silverado came to rest in the northeast ditch, while the Explorer came to rest in the middle of the roadway.
Sanilac EMS transported the 68-year-old driver to McKenzie Memorial Hospital. Marlette EMS transported the 49-year-old driver to Marlette Regional Hospital and later flown by LifeNet to Covenant Health Systems in Saginaw, for treatment of his injuries.
Authorities are not giving names of those involved at this time while the crash remains under investigation.
