(LAPEER COUNTY) – The Village of Almont has turned down a request for annexation which if approved, would have been another step towards a proposed housing development that could have meant up to 125 new homes in the area.
Village council members took the action at a meeting earlier this year, blocking the request.
A developer had sought to purchase 70 acres in the area to build the homes and annex into the village, a move that requires approval from both the village and the Township.
The annexation would have allowed the new development to tie into the Village’s water and sewer systems.
Village officials estimate had the development been allowed to move forward, there would have been about $70,000 dollars in new costs to the Village for their water system and a 2% increase to residents water bills.
