Imlay City considers police disbanding

(LAPEER COUNTY) – Although some residents are less than pleased with the idea after hearing the news, Imlay City officials continue to move forward with the exploratory phase of seeing if disbanding their police department and contracting with the Lapeer County Sheriff Department has any merit.
Police Chief Scott Pike is retiring at the end of April and city officials are looking at all options, including hiring a new Chief or the possibility of contracted services.
In a message from the Mayor, residents were told the possibility existed that current officers could be absorbed into the sheriff department and still based out of Imlay City.
No decisions, either way, have been made and the issue will be further discussed at a meeting on Tuesday, April 6th.
A contingent of local residents are expected to attend the meeting to voice their displeasure with the idea.
