(TUSCOLA COUNTY) – Two law enforcement officers sustained minor injuries following a foot chase in Tuscola County over the weekend.
According to the Tuscola County Sheriff Department, around 2 p.m. Saturday, a deputy from the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office made a traffic stop in Vassar.
Police say it appeared the driver attempted to avoid the stop by pulling in behind a business.
The deputy learned the driver was suspended multiple times, had no registration plate or insurance on the vehicle and also had a possible warrant from another jurisdiction.
Police say the subject appeared very nervous and was asked to step from the vehicle and eventually ran from police after authorities discovered a gun in the vehicle.
After a taser deployment was ineffective, the deputy tackled the suspect who was actively resisting arrest. A further search of the vehicle revealed a loaded Glock 23 and more ammunition and the suspect admitted to being a felon.
The suspect, 33-year old Charles Koop, from Columbiaville was lodged in jail, charged with eight separate counts including, felon in possession of a firearm.
He bonded out of jail Sunday and is due back in court later this month.
