Two-vehicle crash claims life of Lapeer County man

(LAPEER COUNTY) – A 23-year-old Metamora man died as a result of injuries sustained in a fatal accident early Tuesday afternoon in Lapeer County. Authorities say the two-vehicle crash happened at the intersection of Peppermill and Wilder roads in Lapeer Township.
Lapeer Township Police and Lapeer County Sheriff Dept. deputies were dispatched to a report of an injury crash around noon.
According to investigators, Stephen Collins-Krug was traveling west on Peppermill in a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu when he came to a complete stop at a posted stop sign at the Wilder Road intersection.
Police say Klug’s vehicle then entered the intersection into the path of a 2021 Ford F-150 pickup traveling north on Wilder Road, resulting in a broadside collision.
Both vehicles went off the roadway near the intersection with Klug being trapped in the wreckage.
Lapeer Fire & Rescue used their Jaws of Life to free Klug who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The pickup was driven by a 51-year-old Lapeer man, with a 52-year-old Lapeer man in the passenger seat. Occupants of the pickup were not injured and declined medical attention.
The intersection was closed for approximately two hours for rescue efforts and investigation.
Assisting on scene were Medstar Ambulance, Lapeer County EMS, Michigan State Police, Michigan Dept. of Natural Resources Conservation Officer and the Lapeer County Sheriff Department’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit.
