Sanilac Commissioners hear property dispute; make appointments

(SANILAC COUNTY) – The Sanilac County Board of Commissioners found themselves involved in a property dispute at their last meeting after concerns were made known during public comment at their meeting last week.
County residents Melissa and Scott Anglebrandt said the property dispute that has been going on since 2016 when a neighbor moved a nearly 600-foot long ditch to where it now runs along their property line.
The couple claims they have had flooding and erosion problems since the ditch was relocated.
However, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy got involved, saying the relocated ditch is the correct location, and the changes would require permitting and remediation at an estimated cost of $100,000.
In an effort to resolve the issue, Commission Chairman Gary Heberling suggested getting the two parties together with the drain commissioner to discuss the matter further.
Commissioners also named Patrick Bainbridge and Chris Kopacz to the parks and Recreation Board and re-appointed Pam Willis to a three-year stint on the County’s health board.
The Commissioners’ next meeting is next Tuesday, April 20th.
