‘Rona takes a bite out of summer fun

(AREA) – For the second straight year, the affects of  the on-going coronavirus pandemic is wreaking havoc with area festivals and other special events.
Last summer, just about every summertime special event was cancelled as health officials recommended shutting everything down to try and control the spread of the virus.
One year, and 804,000 COVID-19 cases that resulted in more than 17,000 deaths, the virus continues to be an issue, forcing organizers of many events to once again reconsider whether or not to hold events.
At least two events have been cancelled so far in the Blue Water Area with the most recent victim being the Yale Bologna Festival.
Several other organizations are monitoring requirements related to the virus before making final decisions on if they will hold festivals or not.
Currently, plans are still moving forward with holding both the Thumb Festival and the Sanilac County Fair in Sandusky, as well as other events.
The Yale Chamber of Commerce made their hard decision at a meeting last week, after struggling to find volunteers and dealing with restrictions due to the virus.
The event typically draws between 10,000 and 20,000 people to Yale in late July.
Brown City Days, also known in the past as the Soybean Festival, has also been cancelled.
