Thumb Region has updated numbers of cases and deaths due to COVID

(AREA) – The rate of deaths in a five-county region has slowed from previous weeks as the COVID-19 surge begins to slow in the area.
Overall, there have been over 10,800 cases in Sanilac, Tuscola and Huron counties since the start of the pandemic and a total of nearly 32,000 cases with just under 800 deaths with those three counties plus Lapeer and St. Clair.
Sanilac County health department officials report 3,468 cases with 95 deaths while Huron County has had 2,867 cases and 66 deaths.
Tuscola County has been hit with 4,504 cases and 145 deaths, Lapeer County has seen just over 7,000 cases and 158 deaths while St. Clair County has reported 14,121 cases and 335 deaths since the start of the virus.
State officials say the rate of increases in both the number of cases and deaths has slowed in the last 10 days.
