The Sanilac County park system officially opens May 1st for camping and if the use of the parks last year are any indication, officials are expecting another busy and successful season.
Roger Ballard, Parks Board Chairman said even with the pandemic last year and the one month delay in opening the parks, campers came out in record numbers.
Business was up as much as 16% at three campgrounds in the county.
Forester Park, the oldest of three county parks featuring 195 camping sites, has seen numerous upgrades and improvements including underground infrastructure and some new facilities.
Ballard says the board is also seeking a grant for Forester Park to help pay for a ADA accessible playground estimated to cost $170,000 dollars.
Evergreen Park has also benefited from improvements, featuring large wooded lots with 173 sites to choose from.
