Watertown officials mull solar ordinance

(SANILAC COUNTY) – Over the past several months, Sanilac County’s Watertown Township Board of Trustees have been spending multiple hours developing regulations that would govern a proposed solar development in the township, covering around 600 acres.
The board set a six-month moratorium that does not allow for the issuance of permits or licenses for any development, allowing the board time to develop a proposed new ordinance.
A specific site of the potential solar farm has yet to be identified, However, several property owners in the township have active lease agreements with Samsung Renewable Energy for a large scale 200MW solar power installation facility.
The Watertown Township Planning Commission will host a special meeting May 20th at 6 p.m., at the township hall for feedback on an industrial, commercial and residential solar power generating facilities ordinance.
Township officials say input on the issue can be done during the meeting, or in writing to Watertown Township.
